Need some ways to remember veterans on Memorial Day weekend? There are lots of family-friendly events taking place all over the Chicago suburbs. Whether you prefer to remember in solemnity or celebrate with high-energy, there’s something for everyone!

Glen Ellyn, IL Memorial Day 2018 Events

Sunset Pool Opening Day

WHEN: Saturday, May 26, 2018

WHERE: Sunset Pool | 483 Fairview Avenue

Come swim the first day of the season at Sunset Pool! The pool will be open from 12 PM to 8 PM. The pool is zero-depth with a beach-style slope that the little ones love to wade in. There is a playground in the pool area and in the sand play section. Older children can enjoy the slides and diving boards! Learn more.

Boating in the Park

WHEN: Sunday, May 27, 2018

WHERE: Glen Ellyn Lake and Boathouse | 645 Lenox Rd.

Join the pros and learn to boat using a variety of watercrafts like canoes, pedal boats and kayaks. Pay only $5 for 20 minutes on the boat of your choice. Look forward to doing this select Sundays throughout the summer. View the schedule here.

Memorial Day Celebration

WHEN: Monday, May 28, 2018 | 11:00 AM

WHERE: Lake Glen Ellyn | 645 Lenox Road

Lake Glen Ellyn will be hosting this year’s Memorial Day celebration. Students from Glenbard West and South will perform the National Anthem and other songs. The girls’ softball team and the American Legion will pass out poppies for remembrance while collecting donations for the event. The goal is to raise $1,000 to send a WWII veteran on an Honor Flight in DC.

Wheaton, IL Memorial Day 2018 Events

Centennial Commemoration of the Battle of Cantigny

WHEN: Monday, May 28, 2018 | 10 AM to 5:00 PM

WHERE:  First Division Museum at Cantigny Park | 1s151 Winfield Rd

At 10 AM a ceremonial wreath and pigeon release will take place to commemorate the battle of Cantigny. At 1 PM performers will read letters spanning from WWI to Operation Desert Storm. Learn about this event and more here.

Illinois Brass Band

WHEN: Monday, May 28, 2018 | 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

WHERE: Bandshell | Cantigny | 1s151 Winfield Rd.

Join the award-winning Illinois Brass Band as they perform a memorial concert to honor members of the armed service. This 30-member British-style brass band will play patriotic music and some light summer tunes to celebrate this special day. The parking fee is only $10. Admission is free. See details.

Memorial Day Parade

WHEN: Monday, May 28, 2018 | 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM

WHERE: Memorial Park to Wheaton Cemetery

Honor local veterans with this annual parade. The parade leaves Memorial Park at 10 AM in downtown Wheaton. Then the parade will head down Main Street and conclude at the Wheaton Cemetery on Elm Street at 11 AM. View road closures here.

Lombard, IL Memorial Day 2018 Events

Memorial Day Commemoration

WHEN: Sunday, May 27, 2018 | Noon

WHERE: Veterans Memorial in Common Park (Sunken Garden)

Join Lombard veterans as they present “Letters and Stories from the Fronts.” Glenbard East High School’s Eastwind vocal group will be singing the national anthem and other patriotic songs. Everyone is welcome. If there is inclement weather, the celebration will take place at the Lombard Village Hall.
