The holiday season is here, and there's so much to do! Discover some of the events planned in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Lombard, and more around DuPage county.

Glen Ellyn December 2019 Events

Christmas Sweater Shuffle

When: Sunday, December 8th | 7:30 AM

Where: Downtown Glen Ellyn | Main Street 

Come and create a new tradition at the first annual Christmas Sweater Shuffle 5K. Make memories with your neighbors and kick off the holidays with a dose of healthy exercise. Upon crossing the finish line, you’ll be met with medals, milk & cookies, and a visit with Santa! Register now.

Last Chance Craft Fair

When: Saturday, December 14th & Sunday, December 15th | 10 AM to 4 PM & 11 AM to 4 PM (respectively)

Where: College of DuPage Athletic Arena | NW corner of College Rd & Park Blvd 

Get your last minute Christmas shopping done and support local vendors and artisans as they sell their handmade goods. Admission is just $5 and children 16 and under are free. Strollers are welcome and parking is FREE. Check out their website to print a $1 off admission coupon.

Candy Cane Hunt

When: Friday, December 20th | 2 Time Slots: 1 PM to 2 PM & 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM

Where: Main Street Recreation Center | 501 Hill Ave.

Children ages 2 to 8, dress warmly and search for candy canes, create a craft, and enjoy story time! Special candy canes get an extra special treat. Register for one of the time slots available here.

Sports & Fun with Santa

When: Saturday, December 21st | 10 AM to 12 PM

Where: Ackerman SFC | 800 St. Charles Rd.

Kids ages 5 to 10, come play sports, games and have a special visit from Santa and his elves. Only 50 participants are allowed, so be sure to register ASAP. Don’t miss this exciting events for kids who love sports.


Wheaton December 2019 Events

Lions Club Reindeer Run

When: Saturday, December 7th | 8:30 AM to 11 AM

Where: Downtown Wheaton

This winter 5K will put you in the spirit of the season! Wear your favorite Santa hat or jingle bells all the way to the finish line. The first 1,250 runners will get a long sleeve t-shirt and antlers. Every finishing participant receives a medal. Wheaton Lions’ Club supports this event. This is a USATF Certified race. Silvertones Chorus Presents: Happy Holly Days

When: Saturday, December 7th | 3 PM

Where: Memorial Room at the Community Center | 1777 S Blanchard St

Come together to listen to the amazing Silvertones Chorus and their guest, the Take Note choral group. They’ll be singing beloved holiday songs. Bring the whole family for this matinee event. Buy your tickets here.

Beyond Glee Presents Beyond Christmas

When: Saturday, December 14th | 2 Shows: 2 PM & 5 PM

Where: Memorial Room at the Community Center | 1777 S Blanchard St

This all ages event is a fun way to celebrate the season. “Beyond Glee is back this year to help you celebrate the holidays. Don’t miss this delightful and entertaining holiday special, filled with beautiful songs of the season.” Buy your tickets here.

Gingerbread Man Cooking-Making Class

When: Saturday, December 14th  | 11 AM to 1 PM

Where: Champions Room at Arrowhead Golf Club | 26W151 Butterfield Rd.

Make and decorate your own gingerbread man cookies at this culinary holiday event! Event includes lunch off the kids’ menu. Each child will go home with a chef’s hat and goodie bag. The event is for children ages 4 to 10 and is $25. Parents are asked to stay, but do not need to pay. Register here

Holiday Lights in Lilacia Park

When: Saturday, December 7th to the 22nd | Varying Times

Where: Lilacia Park | 150 S Park Ave

There are many events going on for Holiday Lights at Lilacia Park. Here’s the programming schedule for December:

Saturday, December 7th | 5:30 PM

Lilacia Park Lighting Ceremony & JingleBell Jubilee. This kick-off event is the start of many events going on at Lilacia Park through December 22nd.

Sunday, December 8th | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa and a magical Elf hunt for the kiddos!

Friday, December 13th | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa and a magical Elf hunt! Complete a Victorian craft in Mrs. Claus’ Cupboard with volunteers from the Lombard Historical Society.

Saturday, December 14th | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa, Rudolph and Friends. All participants will receive their very own Rudolph red nose when they visit Rudolph!

Sunday, December 15th | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Friday, December 20th | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa and a magical Elf hunt! Complete a Victorian craft in Mrs. Claus’ Cupboard brought to you by the volunteers at the Lombard Historical Society.

Saturday, December 21st | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Free visits with Santa with caroling and s’mores around the fire.

Sunday, December 22nd | 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Polar Express Night in Lilacia Park. Every participant will receive their very own bell to take home when they visit with Santa.

Holiday Candy Workshop

When: Wednesday, December 11 | 4 PM to 5 PM

Where: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center | 820 Finley Rd.

Come in for a culinary kids class for ages 3 to 5. Make candy to eat and take home. Children must be toilet independent to take this class. Register with the Lombard Park District.


Other Events Around DuPage County, December 2019

Mistletoe Market & Celebrate the Season Holiday Festival

When: Saturday, December 7th | 1 PM to 7 PM

Where: Cantigny Visitors Center | 1S151 Winfield Rd in Wheaton 

See what local crafters and artists have created at the Mistletoe Market. Get one-of-a-kind holiday gifts for your friends and family. The last three hours of the show will overlap with the Celebrate the Season Holiday Festival, so be sure to join in on that. The festival includes horse-drawn trolley rides, face painting, a meeting with Santa Claus and more!

Brunch with the Grinch

When: Saturday, December 14th | 10 AM to 12:30 PM

Where: Red Oak Room at Cantigny | 27W270 Mack Rd. in Wheaton 

All ages are welcome to this silly holiday event. The Grinch hosts the annual brunch at Cantigny. Eat, watch The Grinch movie, and get a picture with the Grinch himself! Reservations must be made online.

Illumination: Tree Lights at the Morton Arboretum

When: November 23rd through January 5th | 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Where: Morton Arboretum | 4100 IL-53 in Lisle, IL

“See trees in a different light at Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum. Be surrounded by color as you walk a one-mile paved path amid interactive lighting effects that highlight the beauty of trees in winter.” This event is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs along a one-mile paved walking path. There are some inclines and declines, however. Dress warmly as this is an outdoor event. Learn more.

Supper with St. Nick at the Morton Arboretum

When: December 20th, 21st, 22nd, & 23rd | 5 PM to 7:30 PM

Where: Thornhill Education Center | 4100 IL-53 in Lisle, IL

Come to the Morton Arboretum for an elegant dinner buffet. Following your meal, head over to the Founder’s Room for a special visit and photo op with Santa in front of the fireplace. Included in your visit is Illumination: Tree Lights. Buffet dinner includes lobster bisque, cranberry walnut salad, prime rib, ham, chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin pie and so much more.
