August 2018 Community Events for Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lombard

As summer comes to an end, it’s time to get the most out of local, outdoor events. Check out these August events below!

Glen Ellyn August 2018 Events

Daddy Daughter Luau

When: Thursday, August 2nd | 6 PM to 8 PM

Where: Sunset Pool | 483 Fairview Avenue 

Dads with daughters ages 5 through 12 are welcome to have a fun time at the pool for a luau. There will be a water balloon toss, limbo, and more! Uncles, grandfathers and other male guardians are welcome to join the event. Chips, hotdogs and drinks will be served. There is a fee and you can register here.

2K for Kids Fun Run

When: Saturday, August 4th | 9 AM to 10:20 AM

Where: Newton Park | 707 Fairview Avenue

This is the 4th annual 2K Kids Fun Run! The race is about 1.25 miles. The race is designed for kiddos of all ages. Every quarter mile, runners can complete a cool, age-appropriate challenge. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place runners. There is an entry fee that gets runner a timing bib, shirt, and snacks for after the race. Register here. 

Movie in the Park: Coco

When: Wednesday, August 8th | Begins at 8:15 PM

Where: Newton Park | 707 Fairview avenue 

Bring lawn chairs and blankets for a free movie in the park! If the weather does not cooperate, there won’t be a movie night. You can call the Rainout Line to check for weather updates. If this date is cancelled, the makeup date is August 10th. 

Jazz in the Park

When: Wednesday, August 15th | 7 PM to 9 PM

Where: Lake Ellyn Park | 645 Lenox Road 

Are you looking for a relaxing night out with wonderful music? The Glen Ellyn Jazz Ensemble, a 16-member group, plays a mix of your favorite Big Band tunes. Jazz in the Park brings a touch of Ravinia to Glen Ellyn. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, and picnic dinner. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be canceled. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Back to School Bash

When: Friday, August 17th | 7 PM to 9 PM

Where:  Sunset Pool | 483 Fairview Avenue

Kids in grades 6-8 are invited to join us for a FREE pool party complete with a DJ and games at Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn! Grab your swimsuit, money for food and join your friends! The concession stand will be open until 9pm.

Free Guided Nature Walk

When: Wednesday, August 29th | 9 AM to 10 AM

Where: Ackerman Park | 800 St. Charles Road 

For ages 18 and up. Walk around local parks and learn about the area’s natural history. This date, the focus will be Prairie Plants. Park by the woods near the entrance drive and meet up nearby. This is a free event with no registration required.

Wheaton August 2018 Events

Wheaton Brew Fest

When: Saturday, August 4th | 12 PM to 4:30 PM

Where: Memorial Park | 208 W. Union Avenue

Come for the 8th annual Wheaton Brew Fest! This is a 21 and over event only. Ticket information can be found here. There will be live entertainment, unique beer selection and food from local restaurants. 

Cosley Classic Golf Outing

When: Monday, August 6th | 10:30 AM to 7 PM

Where: Arrowhead Golf Club | 26W151 Butterfield Road

Come support Cosley Zoo with this amazing, fun-filled golf outing. The outing features the following:

• 18 holes
• Lunch
• Steak dinner
• Raffle
• Activities on the course
• Animal visits from Cosley Zoo

Shakespeare in the Park: The Tempest

When: August 30th through September 1st | 7 PM

Where: Memorial Park | 208 W. Union Avenue

Shakespeare in the Park is a high-quality theatrical production with the cooperation of the Wheaton College Arena Theater and the Wheaton Park District. Seating is limited, so please bring your own lawn chairs. Although admission is free, the production costs nearly $40,00 and relies on the generous donations of viewers.

Lombard August 2018 Events

Johnny Russler & the Beach Bum Band

When: Wednesday, August 1st | 6:30 PM

Where: Madison Meadow | E Madison St & S Ahrens Ave

Any event with the Johnny Russler & the Beach Bum Band is a beach party! The band will play beloved Jimmy Buffett songs as well as covers of songs from Bob Marley, Paul Simon, Jimmy Cliff, and more. Bring your blanket, snacks and get ready to dance.

Bounce Back to School

When: Saturday, August 11 | 10 AM to 12:30 PM

Where: Lombard Common | 433 E. St. Charles Road

Get all the wiggles out before school’s in. There will be bounce houses, an inflatable golf course, drinks, giveaways and more! This is a free event.

Other Events in August 2018

Family Yoga

When: Saturday, August 4th | 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Where: Cantigny Education Center | 1s151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, IL 

Connect with your family through meditation and yoga. Poses promote appropriate poses. Ages 2 ½ to 6 years are suggested but older children are welcome. There is limited spacing, so pre-registration is suggested. Yoga mats and props are provided, but feel free to bring your own. Register here.
